Tools to assist with keeping a pack per trip
I like recording each trip as a new pack, and leaving them around for future reference (and so that I can see how much I've improved my base weight/packing skills). Trailpost is great, but there's a few possible additions that seem like they would make doing this easier and nicer:
- I will slowly end up collecting a lot of old items as I break/lose/sell/wear out them (plus gear that I rent or borrow). It'd be great if there was some way to indicate gear that is no longer used and, by default, not include it in the "add pack items" view. Deleting it is suboptimal, as that requires removing it from all those older packs.
- Having the ability to copy a pack as you mention in https://help.trailpost.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115010142226-Packs-in-Packs would be nice: my packs are usually fairly similar, so it'd be convenient to be able to duplicate my basic pack and tweak as necessary for the given trip.
- A possible alternative to the above, but also generally useful, would be the ability to sort the "add pack item" view by things other than alphabetically (like category, or number of your packs it appears in: favourite items are then all together)
Thanks!

Hey Huon!
Thanks for the kind words about Trailpost and for taking the time to offer suggestions for how to improve it!
- I've had in the back of my head an idea that certain locker items could be "archived", in that they would stay in the system (and in your old packs) but would be filtered out from your main locker and the "add items to pack" screen unless you changed a filter to "include archived items." Does that sound like a reasonable idea that would solve your first issue?
- Duplicating packs is still high on my development roadmap, I just need to finish some other functionality before I can loop back to it. In the spirit of openness, my primary development goal for the next few weeks or so will continue to be primarily focused on the centralized gear database. This is both the #1 requested feature from my beta testing and the feature that will allow Trailpost to become self-sustaining from a business standpoint.
- This is super obvious and I can't believe I hadn't thought of this before. I have added two feature tickets to my tracking system. One to sort locker items by how often they are used first, and another to allow for arbitrary sorting like you described.
For my own prioritization, which of the features you asked about are most important to you?
Thanks again!

Yep, that sounds perfect!

Oh, cool, that looks like it's almost user-visible! I'm excited.

Yay! Thanks.

I think the thing that I would use the most would be the sorting of locker items.

Hey Huon,
Just wanted to update you that I have deployed the recent release. The system was able to find matches for a couple of your locker items on the first pass. The next time you log into Trailpost you should end up on the new "Trailpost Dashboard" page which should let you confirm or reject the suggestions.
Now that I've completed a release, I'm going to dig deeper into some of your suggestions and see if I can squeeze any of them into the next phase of development.
Thanks again for being a Trailposter!
